Kevin Riley serves as President and Chief Executive Officer of GuideWell, a subsidiary of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida (BCBSF), as well as the Vice President of Innovation for Blue Cross. He is responsible for the strategy and operations of this new retail health care company, and the design of its visionary products and services. As the head of Innovation, he is responsible for finding disruptive market models that will create diversified income and new value for Blue Cross. He is also on the board of directors for Incepture and is a charter member of the Blue Cross Diversity Action Committee. Prior to joining Blue Cross, Riley served as the Principal of his own management consulting firm. There Riley was engaged in large business development work in the healthcare field including: product design for the world leader in direct-to consumer screening (Life Line Screenings), product development and business planning for three national employer wellness companies (DSM Nutrition, Worksite Health Solutions, and Wellness Corporate Solutions), and business development and operations for several retail clinic leaders (The Little Clinic, RediClinic, and SmartCare). Riley has also helped several technology start-ups (Animoto.com, Austin.com, Allure Energy) develop their market message.
As a former Vice President of Business Development for RediClinic, Riley was responsible for the development and execution of Go-To-Market plans. This encompassed all strategic development of the channel, tactical prioritization of product and sales development, branding and execution of marketing, and systematic direct and field sales tracking. Riley reached financial targets for new and existing customers, including new sales in excess of $6 million. This represented a 50% increase in sales over the previous year and was achieved through the establishment of new channel partners in managed care, benefit consultants, and retail health outlets. Riley was also responsible for the overall leadership and management of a $12 million national flu shot line of business. This included the planning, design, and execution of the program, all while overseeing a 20+ internal workforce and 7,500 contingent workers.
As the former President of his own geological consulting firm, Riley was able to grow his team from a single consultant to 14 full time employees generating $2 million in revenues with a net operating margin of 36%. This was accomplished through applying rigorous business principles to the company’s operations (cost controls and billing), innovating industry-standard practices through advanced product design, and beating the established competition by offering focused customer service.
Prior to that, Riley was the Director of Account Management for a large software firm in Asia. Riley worked with both the existing customer base and strategic new customers to architect solution roadmaps for process improvement and business automation. This involved execution in the sales cycle from the conception of the solution, to the crafting of the proposal, to the structuring of the implementation, and finally to the closing of the deal.
As longtime Technology Consultant for several international software companies, Riley has been involved with numerous projects for global fortune 500 companies. The general theme is one of large-scale program management across multiple regions, while maintaining strong technical involvement in the design, development, and delivery of the final product for each customer.
Riley’s success in his work life points to his natural leadership abilities and a balance of business and technical savvy. This has enabled him to “sweat the details” while keeping focused on the larger landscape and driving to make that vision a reality. Riley brings exuberance to his work and private life and is well regarded by his friends and co-workers as a consistent and thoughtful colleague that brings innovativeness and an inherent enthusiasm to each endeavor. Kevin is also a proud husband and father, avid angler, and music aficionado.
